Background History

1993 August: Local Muslims struggle to find space for prayers in Thornbury area, hall booked for Eid prayers.
1994 Local resident offers Garage, room for 50 people for daily 5 times prayers.
1994 February: meeting held to establish need for Islamic Centre in the Thornbury Area
1994 Steering Committee formed and decided upon name “Islamic Cultural & Educational Association” (ICEA)
1994 August: First General Meeting held in Crofts Hall & decision made to buy land for a new Mosque & ICEA, initial donations collected.
1994 September: Constitution approved by Members 1995 ICEA Management committee with support from members & local Councillors & agreed to buy Land on Thornbury Road.
1996 January: First prayers in Porta-Kabins
1996 : 1.84 Acres of Land Purchased for £100,000 from Bradford Metropolitan District Council.
1996 October 16th: ICEA registered with Charity Commissioner
1996 October: Planning Application Submitted
1997 July: Planning permission granted
1998 Amendments from 2 to 3 storey accepted
1998 Additional 0.22 Acres bought for £27,000 to place Porta-Kabins during construction of new building
1999 January 3rd: Foundation Stone laid
1999: Due to shortage of funds, Phased construction begins
2000 November 24th: First Friday Prayers in New Mosque due to capacity issues in Porta-Kabins.
2001-2006: remaining phases completed costing Approx £2.5 Million.
2007 March 17th: Lower Ground Floor Opening and Community Cohesion Event.

 

AIMS

To promote the advancement of the religion in accordance with the doctrines of Islam
To advance education and religious education in accordance with the Islamic Beliefs
To provide facilities for recreation and leisure time activities
To provide Dawah & to reach out to Muslims and non Muslims

 

OBJECTIVES FOR THE FUTURE

Expand Services by acquiring additional land and further develop community links
Establish Education and Resource Centre in particular for Women and Elderly
Interfaith Dialogue & Community Cohesion
Raising awareness about Islam and Muslim community
Stronger Partnership with Statutory organisations
Help raise education attainments in the local area
Help reduce Crime and Disorder in the local area
Engage with Young Adults

Elected Management Committee & Trustees are ALL volunteers.

Professionals actively involved at realising full potential and delivering strategic aims & objectives
Providing bereavement services
Promoting Interfaith dialogue and community cohesion at all levels
Regular English lectures from internationally renowned scholars
Educating 400+ children daily
Supporting local schools to raise educational achievements & visits to Mosque
